Carephone Smart Call 4200 C - anyone know about them?

I have been trying to help the elderly mother of a friend with her telephones. She is slow moving around and wants a telephone near to where she sits and another next to her bed. She has a Carephone Smart Call 4200 C device fitted which includes an alarm system. This works fine but it causes problems with the telephone.

Before I became involved, her daughter tried to install a cordless telephone plugged into the two-way adaptor that has the 4200 plugged in. This had worked fine with the existing corded phone, but when the new cordless one was installed it cut out after a few moments of starting a call. In the end they went back to the old phone and all seemed to be well though not what they wanted of course.

Believing it was because the phone was cordless and causing interference they asked me to install hardwired extension sockets. These total about

9m of additional cable and are correctly installed. We plugged in two corded phones and got dial tones. However when she started to use them, the mother said that the problem of cutting out had returned. We then tried various combinations of phones but could not cure the problem. What is worse, even putting the system back exactly as it was originally, with the extensions disconnected, has not entirely cured the problem. There are still occasional disconnections.

Has anyone used or installed one of these systems and come across this problem? I am awaiting a reply from the suppliers but I feel I will get unbiassed and better information from this newsgroup that will help with 'discussions' with them or allow me to cure the problem myself.
