Hi,
I wanted to change the BT telephone line socket myself but forgot to make a note of which wire goes where.
Does any one knows the connections please?

I'm pretty certain my relatively recent incoming line has orange as one of the colours on the 'used' pair - I only recently installed a new type BT master socket to allow fitment of an ASDL filter. And only the one pair were connected.
If this is controversial, I'll open it up and check for definite.

Of course, that assumes that whoever fitted the socket in the first place used the correct colours, which is probable but not a certainty! You may find that you need to follow the wiring up to the next socket and copy the wiring colours in there.
site.
If there is no phone plugged in the test resistor goes nowhere (at DC). If they test the line with AC the capacitance of the line could have an impedance appreciably less than 470k thereby confusing the issue. In fact a bit of dampness in the master socket and the DC resistance could come down to a few 10's of kilohms, ditto.
Before I learned it was a test resistor (In PGS's days) I just assumed it was there to restore the DC on the bell wire to that on the "A" leg, rather than having it floating about.
Seemed a good idea if there may be high induced voltages about in the case of a lightening strike, (wouldn't want to come across a 1.8 mf capacitor charged to ? 60Kv? plugging the phone in. 8-(( ( OK, I know to get it charged up something else would have to breakdown).
So how does the line test work?
