Yes well according to them Virgin media sent me a a package and I was out when it was delivered and they put a card through the door and left it with a neighbour. Not only don't virgin know about it, but none of my neighbours took in a parcel for me and no card so maybe Yodel leave in an alternative universe and occasionally dip into ours? From all the stories I hear, I'd not trust them to deliver fish and chips.

I think it was Hermes that I used to ship two rather large cardboard boxes to quite different destinations. Both had their status shown as "Delivered - package posted in letterbox".

I'd have liked to see that. I complained, and eventually they apologised, claiming there was an issue with the driver's terminal. Odd that it affected two locations at opposite ends of the country.

They delivered a very large plant pot by chucking it over my gate. They claim it was put into my letterbox (obviously, my letterbox is a Tardis), and they also claim I signed for it.

I feel really sorry for the Hermes drivers they get paid a pittance on impossibly tight piece work schedules as it is so you can't blame them for doing whatever it takes to stay approximately on target. They have usually vanished before I get to the door. Other more reputable couriers hang around to get "his mark X" on their digital dodah, but not Hermes.

I had "we called but you were out" as a reason code for Amazon non-delivery when our village was cut off by snowdrifts. Sometimes they have to be creative with the reason code when there is nothing more suitable.

In my wife's case, it was Royal Mail.

They dumped it on the doorstep in clear view of the street. Fortunately it was still there when the householder came home and brought it round to us.

The sender had paid for it to be signed for ...!
