videos on youtube suggest annealing it, using a bender with a bullet mandrel (not cheap £656?) I think I'd look what Vevor have to offer.

I need to make a bend of quite a large radius (about 14cm) in a length of

22mm aluminium pipe.

How easy is this to do? Can I get away with just a bending spring or do I need a pipe bender as well (or instead)?

I don't have the pipe yet, what grade and thickness is likely to make the job easiest - or at least possible?

Plug one end, fill with dry sand, keep shaking it down till it's well packed. Plug the other end and find a telegraph pole or lamppost to bend it around, gently does it, bit at a time.

You can make quite a bit of money doing this if you have a swear box.
