"Millions of people will get an "armageddon" phone alert as the UK braces for Storm Eowyn.
"In the biggest ever alert, around 4.5 million people will hear a siren from their phones at 6pm. Phones will also vibrate for up to 10 seconds.
"It will be sent to people in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, where the Met Office has issued a rare "red alert" warning."

I got it earlier (being in the near of Edinburgh). My wife got it at the same time. I thought I'd disabled it but I forgot I updated the phone a year ago. I also got a text from my home insurer telling me how to contact them to claim and it would be likely their phones would be busy.
I am surprised. Routinely I disbelieve everything the DE 'writes'...

Windiest I can recall for a few years. Being over 60 I noticed it was breezy when I got up for a pee at 4.00am. When I actually got up at
7.00am it was windy/blustery. A few noticeably strong gusts this morning but we're just starting the Red Warning now.
Ah. Well East Anglia is 'brisk' and now the rain has stopped, rather springlike with broken overcast.
I enjoyed my drive. No trees down yet. I believe the worst is tonight
My niece was out on a supermarket floor when the alert arrived to every phone in the shop all at once :)
