Application for creating wiring diagram?

Visio should fit your needs but it isn't a true 3d package.

has it at £44 (+VAT?) and it looks like you just need an eligible student :"2. No Student ID required for Microsoft Software: As an Official Microsoft Partner, our offers extend beyond .ac.uk email address holders so that any family member or guardian can afford to buy on behalf of a pupil or student." If you do have school age children then all I can say is that mine found the package that MS bought and renamed Visio invaluable. There are lots of free "stencils" on the net. The site is also doing Office 2007 Enterprise for £30. PeterK

Doublecad XT is also from IMSI/Design (who also do TurboCAD). There is a free version, which is quite a lot like AutoCAD LT 2010 - and I have proved that they can swap DWG files, at basic level at least.

It's for creating a record of the cabling layout I am currently doing in the house which will include 20 ethernet, 8 TV/Audio and 8 telephone outlets. Each cable is idedntified by number and the drawing will show a schema of the layout.

I finally downloaded it. The first time I tried, I clicked on the download button at the top but that went nowhere, then I tried the download text lower down and that didn't work.

Just tried the top download link and all the options opened up.

Now downloaded, but I won't have much time to play with it till next week.

Many thanks,

Dave

If you are a RISCOS person, why not consider David Snell's ProCAD. If you want to know more email me.

Or, if you are a bit of a programmer in BASIC, you could try Drawscript. This produces Draw files from a modified BASIC type program. But much more work than a dedicated package.

Any of the later versions of Draw like Draw Plus which include a library can be used for simple diagrams. And are easier to use than most CAD progs I've looked at.

I use DrawWorks XL and Mr Clippy for the library.

Have you two tried any of the freeware stuff out there? Things like these

good features, for free.

Not that I'm a cheapskate or anything, but the packages being sold in the shops aren't any better than the freeware drawing packages now available to download.

I've not bothered as the Acorn Draw prog does everything I want - and is simple to use. Was designed for kids after all. ;-)

Hee Hee Hee I've used that before and have to admit that it works great. I use a combined freeware package called PhotoFiltre that can be used to draw as well as edit images. Best all round package I've found for these types of projects.

I found it here

today's use. It should really be called 'technical draw' 'Paint' in Acorn terms is more like the above one.
