Adding a swivel base to an armchair

Has anyone here done this? Turntable-type chair bases seem to be available, though the ones I've seen have all been on US sites, but I wonder about a DIY approach, perhaps incorporating casters set around a perimeter (stronger and more stable than a single spindle?) Any thoughts will be very welcome.

You can get "captain's chair" mechanisms/bases which would give you tilt and swivel.

Take the casters off if you don't want it to move.

Nautical places have a variety of thingies for seats (this is a US site)

Owain, thanks for that. The chair base is too deep for my purposes, but the idea to look at nautical supplies is a very good one.
