Someone was seeking 8mm router bits.

Stick with the 8mm bits if possible. They are far superior to 6mm

In what respect are they better? Not having a go, just curious.

Well you have about 77% more bulk in the shaft with consequent advantages in resistance to slip, whip, chatter etc.

More aggressive cuts can be made and they also break less easily.

The difference between them in the flesh is much greater than is apparent from just comparing shaft diameters.
