I have a clogged sewer line and I'm told by the plumber that roots have crushed the pipe and it needs to be replaced. He gave me a price to repair the line but said if the line was orangeburg all the way to the sewer he would have to replace all of it and that would cost more.
do i have to replace all of a orangeburg pipe if just a area is clogged with roots

Not necessarily (unless it's local code) AFAIK but...Orangeburg is a ticking time bomb. You could save a good bit of dosh by renting a Bobcat and digging it up yourself, though.
Make sure your plumber gets a permit.
