Apple trees & grape vines.

Planted some apple & grape seeds in my herb box just for fun, and was surprised to see seedlings emerging after about 10 days or so. The reason I didn't expect them to grow is because I am in a tropical area where we grow bananas, mangos, papaia etc.

Apple Storage cooler insulation

Local apple farmer is putting up a CA storage system for apples, (Long term storage) He gives me the prints and tells me that he's insulating the walls to R-40. I size the units with the Rep and it comes to six 5 HP units. Ok, no problem.

moldy apple wood, usable?

I'm trying to dry a small amount of apple wood. I stacked and stickered it outside (following the advice in Understanding Wood), where it's been for perhaps 9 months in a location protected from direct sun and rain.

Y shape Apple tree.

I bought this Granny Smith apple tree recently on M26 rootstock. I want to keep it in a patio pot for now as we should be moving at some point in the future. My problem is the Y shape in its structure. Should I keep this shape and try to fan train it?

Saving an Apple tree

In the September hurricane here in NS, I had a apple tree blow over, the yellow august type, my favorite. It was a mature tree, 15 ft + with the help of the farm tractor we stood it back up and braced it with 3 fence posts. The winter winds knocked it back down.

Apple tree in pot?

I've been growing an apple tree I started from seed in a pot for several months. It's still pretty small, maybe 4 inches tall, but it has lots of small leaves on it. Should I put it in a bigger pot, or has its growth been stunted for some other reason?

Apple Trees - No fruit

Three years ago, we bought a house in north Alabama that had three apple trees in the backyard. At the time, they were 5 years old and the home owner said that he had a "few" apples on them. This was in August 2001. The next year, there were no apples.

Spray'g apple tree blooms

My apple trees are just starting to blossom here in eastern Massachusetts. Generally they produce much fruit, but mostly infected with worms. What pesticide might I apply to eliminate the worms and have some apples I can eat for a change? Ciao, Ack.
