I'm always able to get a sweet, crisp apple (and watermelon...). Flick the fruit. A dull thud, bad fruit. A sharp, crisp "tink", good fruit.

Might you have several iphones/ipads/ipods signed in on the same apple account, and they're being read and deleted on one just as they're being seen on the other?
True - although while not every phone is eligible, mine was replaced by Apple for £25 at 80% 'capacity' remaining. Not bad I thought for a near 5 year old phone.
Suggest using an Apple newsgroup next time.

The two I might recommend are the Nvidia Shield devices and the Apple TV, although neither are that cheap.
The Maplins power supply is almost the same cost as the genuine Apple power supply and won't do the camera as well, so it would be safer to buy the Apple PS. You don't explicitly say if it is running an A1005 - is it?
