plane trade gloat

I have several woodworkers in the underground basement where my shop is. one of the fellow has this bike with him and I offered more as a joke a plane trade for it. well he accepted. three planes. it is a fairly high end bike in the 2000.00 rage when new.

time to work

On Sat, 25 Oct 2003 13:18:44 GMT, "mel" brought forth from the murky depths: Go out to the shop, "accidentally" leaving the door open and "accidentally" droping something, like a turkey roasting pan or galv. garbage can lid. Just being noisy in the shop can wake up the whole house.

wood glue in cold garage

My yellow glue froze last year in my shop. It turned into something resembling stiff yellow foam. It never returned to a liquid state and I threw it out. One thing I'm going to try is putting a refrigerator in my (frozen) shop.

Drum sander opinions...

Can't speak for the Performax, but I would avoid the Delta for a small cabinet/furniture shop. It WILL NOT sand wide panels with paper >120 without burning unless you run the panels very, very slowly and take a minuscule bite. Even then, it might burn.

dust collection not working

Shop vacs do not move enough air to be real effective dust collectors. Most shop vacs move around 100 CFM or so, where a dust collector may move 1000 CFM or more. I use a dust collector on my router table.

OT: Learning and rocks...

Those are usually cut in their shop, with a really neat saw. My BIL has one. Fun to watch. The counterscan be cut onsite if necessary, I had to cut down the cabinets under the counter because someone didn't allow for the base molding when he measured for cabinets and countertops.

WORKSHOP BUILDING COSTS

Good luck to you -- sounds like a very cool shop. You may need to re-budget your refrigerated air. For the size of shop you have, you are going to need a 2 ton A/C unit. The best buy I found for a good quality 2 ton window-mount (I mounted mine in a wall) A/C was about $750.
