Hi all, I'm planning to move from Nebraska to Texas in the near future and have a couple of questions about heat and humidity in the shop. First, are there special precautions or maintenance regimens to protect machinery?
In my first *real* shop, I mounted the flourescents in a row in the center of the building- and quickly found that every tool I worked at except the table saw had it's light blocked by the shadow of my body.
At one point in time, I worked at a shop that made hand made antique looking furniture out of pine. To simulate the look of worm holes, we would set the pieces out in the field behind the shop and fire a few rounds of bird shot at them out of a 16 gauge shotgun.
I think we shop the same store - the outside world, the shop in houston, and the Rockler website have no connection to each other, or at least it seems that way at times.
Brian, I have 9 1/2 ft ceilings in basement / wood shop. This height is plenty high enough for me. I also have radiant floor heat which is absolutely wonderful!
This came with the 26 inch Shop Fox but my Beismeyer is a 50 inch so I opted to put that on it. Didn't see any reason to spend the extra money for something I already had. Somebody local to me will get a great deal on the Shop Fox fence! :-) Bryan
My main focus at the moment is shop tools. I don't have enough storage space in the shop, nor do I have a proper work bench. I think those things are the priority at the moment. brian
RE: Subject Time to find a buddy who has a machine shop and barter. What you want is very easy to make if you have access to a small metal working lathe and a "Bridgeport" (universal) milling machine.
Everyone gathers after a death to raid the shop of dead family member. The author was "fuming" because he missed out on the feeding frenzy by talking to the widow (and only because his wife "made" him).
When I worked in the glass shop we used an expoxy based adhesive to attach the metal to the glass. It was the same stuff the autoglass department used for the rearview mirrors. Most shops will have some that is about gone that they will usually give ya. Good luck..
