Amazon to stop accepting payments with Visa *credit* cards next year

I use it with Apple Pay too, as well as by itself. The Amazon Mastercard credit card is for Amazon purchases (also others) so I guess there's some sort of subsidy from Amazon to New Day, if not just merchant charges in the ordinary way.

iPhone code cracked

Yes, I'm basically agreeing with you, that Apple isn't going to know how the FBI finally got in. Except I don't see how Apple would ever be able to legally "request" and get anything from the FBI if it had gone the other way.

too many cooking apples

Apple pie, apple crumble, apple cake, apple bread, pancake & apple & chocolate mousse, some types store quite well. There's also apple based curry sauces but I've never been impresed with them.

Alternative Operating Systems to Windows

I cut my teeth on FORTRAN IV in 1965 and have developed software for most OS's except Apple. Nothing against Apple but nobody ever wanted to pay me to work on Apple devices. Like cars, they are all pretty much the same.

13A / USB socket power drain?

Apple - backwards compatible? When did that happen? Like all those things with an Apple iPod dock, all now obsolete and useless.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Ritchie

When competition is stifled by a monopoly, progress stops, quality stagnates and people are forced to pay what the monopoly says they will pay. MS is a perfect example of this, providing crap at a 30% mark up to over 90% of the market.

Review of my home broadband router logs (suspicious activity?)

So that means it's an Apple device, like an iphone. Not that it's someone working at Apple, inc.!

OT - cheap printer scanner copier

No, HP are close partners with Apple. Apple do a lot of work with CUPS, HP printers are well supported by CUPS.
