Remote control solenoid water value

Apr 01, 2007 4 Replies

My home has iron pipes and I am paranoid about a pipe bursting while I am not home. The water comes in through the garage and I have a manual shut off value in the garage. Frequently I turn the water off when I leave the house. Does anyone make a remote control solenoid water value I could install in the garage? That way I could have a remote in my car so when I close the garage door with the automatic garage door opener, I could also turn my water on and off from the car. Any Idea?

Well, they make garage opener receivers that do nothing but take a remote control signal and close a switch. These are good for converting old operators that you can't get remotes for anymore. So, you hook up a 24vac solenoid valve to the remote box and a 24vac thermostat transformer. You could probably program the remote box to work on your existing remote code so you can operate the garage door and the solenoid from the same opener.

I found this water detection device that I could probably adapt to what I am looking for:
