Hey guys, hoping someone here has dealt with something like this.
I’ve recently been hearing what I think is a water hammer noise — loud bang or thud — but only at night, typically between 2-4 AM. It's not right after anyone uses water, which is what's confusing me. It sounds like it’s coming from somewhere behind the kitchen wall, but I’ve checked and there’s no visible leak or drips under the sink or in the basement where the main lines run.
I did recently replace an old washer in one of the bathroom faucets, but I can’t see how that would cause this issue unless it's somehow building up pressure slowly?
I’ve read about installing arrestors or draining the whole system to reset air chambers — has anyone had luck with either? Or could this be something entirely different like pipe expansion or a ghost in the walls? 😅
Appreciate any tips or wild theories.
