Zoning Changes in California

We wanted to go through the park and had only seen the valley at bottom and top. I recall going past Sacramento and on approach to Tahoe were signs on the road from the night before yet to be turned around that only vehicles with chains were permitted. Must have been over 30 years ago. We had driven around from visiting brother in law in Orange county in September when it was 105 degrees. Years before we had driven from brother in laws to Las Vegas. Huge areas compared to little Delaware where I used to cycle a 60 mile loop through DE, MD and PA. Think PA and CA have about same population densities and there are sparsely populated regions of PA.

I ran into a German tourist on a rental motorcycle in Hanksville UT. He was having problems with the bike and asked me where the closest repair shop was. I told him it was a tossup between Salt Lake and Flagstaff, each about 230 miles. Sorry, Gunther, this ain't Germany.

afaik the longest distance between gas stations on an interstate is from Salina UT to Green River UT on I70, 107 miles. It's very scenic. There are a couple of rest areas with pit toilets and no water.

I think they have a new, more politically correct billboard with the same basic message.

OhMyZod ! At least Grandma's reel mower had a recoil starter . I came to hate that thing with a passion reserved for your worst enemy . "Bag the clippings , it looks so TACKY if you leave them."

I bet he is damned proud of his gas there. It is probably like the Miccosukee reservation on Alligator Alley. They get even with you there for all of the paleface transgressions. Gas is a half buck or more a gallon higher and they get ball park prices for a hot dog.

Yeah but it was a lot easier to fix. If the rope broke, get a peice of clothesline, tie a know in it, and you were good to go. It had a hand clutch but pulling it backwards took some work. Experimenting with tuned exhausts, I replaced the muffler with a piece of black iron pipe. The idea was to draw a crayon line the length of the pipe and where the wax melted first was the pressure node where you wanted to cut it.

Gained .0001 HP and 50 decibels.

How nice for them. My 2 acres of "farm grass" would chew those up and spit them out. And each of them is almost the same price as my lawn tractor.

So 40x100 or so.

Our lot was 100 x 350, and I had to mow it all, minus the house and a few bushes. It took 90 minutes for the front yard and 90 minute for the back yard. The lawn mower was self-propelled so that made it easier but probably slower. Of course, it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summer time, so that lowered the number of mowings needed.

Did I say ALL? I only spoke of my observations of the people around me. Your mileage will vary.

Google says it does rain in the summer, but it didn't the years I live there.

So it turned out well that the pully was stuck on the shaft.

I couldnt' adjust walking speed on the 1958 Motomower, except by running the engine faster, and I didn't want to run it very fast when it was cutting fine at what an 11-year old thought was a reasonable speed. (I'd probably feel the same way now.) And I really had nothing else to do on summer days.
