Well Water "Bill" Scam

I overheard someone saying that they live in the country and have a well. They said that they recently got a "bill" in the mail, saying that their well water runs below a nearby city, and because of that, they are required to pay the city water fees. I asked if the bill came from the actual city, using city letterhead, and they said it came from a place called soemthing like "water service", or "water source" (something like that). They said they were told to send payment to this company for the amount of $____ , or their water would be shut off.

This has to be a scam. First off, unless the water source can be determined by a geologist, or something like that, no one can say where the water comes from. Secondly, how can they determine how much water is being used by this well?, Thirdly, no one can charge for well water, and last, how the hell would they shut off the water going to a well?

But as they say, "there's a sucker born every minute", and I suppose they will get some suckers who will actually pay this.

I dont really know this person, but when I heard them talking about it, I suggested they contact their city or county attorney, regarding FRAUD, and show them the so called "bill". They will likely take action regarding it.

This has got to be one of the most stupid things I heard in awhile....

OTOH the state can say they own the water in your well and fine you for "wasting" it. They can even claim the water that lands on your roof when it rains.

Up here in the region of Waterloo, Ontario, we pay a stormwater fee to support the stormwater sewers- and we get a reduction based on the number and size of trees, and rainbarrels.

Interesting how these governments can charge people for stuff they probably dont even need.... Aside from businesses with large parking lots. a home generally dont affect the storm sewers, unless you have the outdated system where your rain gutters go to the street sewers. The rest of is just water the lawn with it.

I'd like to propose that all the sewerage in the U.S. should be piped to the Trump Tower from now on.... But that's real sewerage, not rain water. :)
