water under frig crisper

Jul 21, 2006 3 Replies

This is the 2nd frost free frig that we've seen this with. There is a water build-up under the crisper drawers (on the bottom of the frig.) The defroster seems to be functioning ok. One frig is a magic chef model ctb1521arw.

Anyone know what's causing this or how to stop it?

Thanks.

Look around under the drawers. Is there a drain? Is it blocked?

When the freezer defrosts the water runs down a tube into a condensation pan under the refrig. If that tube gets clogged with food or mold, the tube will overrun and water will run down the back inside of the refrig and end up under the crispers. Check the end of the tube under the refrig or in the freezer. Running hot water down it will sometimes work or just cleaning the bottom if it appears clogged.

Clogged drain line. A repair person (possibly yourself) needs to take all the food out of the freezer. Take apart the back of the freezer from inside. Clear the drain. Probably some ice frozen onto the top of the drain hole.
