The one and only time I was seated on a jury, it was a date rape case. We acquitted. There was no evidence, it was just "he said", "she said", and we couldn't see ruining the boy's life because he AND his girlfriend got piss-drunk and maybe he couldn't read her signals.

AFAIK the people that have been paid out in the asbestos cases and settlements are people who did work with it in bad environments, not people who had it in shingles on their homes. I remember watching guys doing brake replacement at shops using air hoses to blow out the brakes, with a cloud of dust flying everywhere. Jobs like WWII ship workers were some of the worst, working in the confines of the ship with it, asbestos in the air everywhere. I agree, there is no real risk if it's around your home, especially outside and properly secured and left alone.
Since yesterday I've seen Roundup lawsuit solicitation again on TV and on the radio here. The sharks are circling that sinking Bayer boat. I wonder when some lawyers will start going after the competition? I used Razor and Imitator, bought it in 2.5 gallon jugs for $60, makes hundreds of gallons. Those dummies buying it for $15 a gallon ready to use, maybe they are dumb enough to pour it all over themselves too. :) Even at HD you can get the concentrate for a lot less that the ready to us, but it's still much more expensive than the knockoffs that you can buy online. One 2.5 gallon jug, I think it's like 40%, lasts me a decade.

And some people should just be excused without even going through that. One jury duty while waiting to see if they needed me, I was talking to a guy. He's a lawyer that works in the DA's office. He was complaining, saying he was thinking about going to see the judge so he could skip the BS. It's 99.99% he would never wind up on a jury. Or at least they should send him only to a panel for a civil case selection, I guess there he might get on. But he was with me, for a criminal case, waste of time.
I probably should have avoided the trial I served on and would have been excused had I told the court that two of our sons are lawyers.
The lawsuit was over a woman's death in the hospital and the doctors were being sued. We found the doctors not to be at fault. The judge came in afterwards and told us we did the right thing.
What I did not know was that my son was a lawyer for the hospital that was also sued and had settled out.
When the lawyer for the plaintiff found this out, the verdict was appealed but the appeal failed. I had no idea that our son had worked on this case.
Now over 70 I do not have to serve. I got a call for jury duty a couple of months ago and turned it down. They still call in the older folks because many older people like to serve on juries and don't want to be automatically excluded.
On the case where I actually got to jury selection, some old guy fell asleep in the box. They had to wake him up to tell him to go home and take a nap.
A factor that might help any competitors is what they might have said on their labels that's different than what Monsanto said. I'm sure they didn't say it caused cancer either, but they may have had some better warning about avoiding getting it on you that could help them if they get sued. Also, juries wouldn't likely be presented with all the years of documents, emails, etc where Monsanto was talking about how to challenge the latest negative study, get it reversed, etc. I doubt these companies did anything like that, they likely just left that up to Monsanto. I wonder what happens next? If you're one of the smaller companies making the knockoff, do you do nothing? Change your labels? Stop selling it? This could drive up prices. Even Bayer, if they have to pay out billions will probably raise prices.
This is quite something. And also a lot, maybe most of Monsantos revenue comes from the genetically modified seed that is RU resistant that they sell to farmers. If RU were to go, all that genetic engineering and all the seed revenue would be gone too.
Must have had enough jurors already. What could you possibly say offensive about lawyers or insurance companies?

Jury duty is a civic duty. Has nothing to do with "honor". Felons can't serve on a jury. Maybe in your state, I don't know.
I torn up my last Subpoena. I was previously exempted, so renewed my license and they put me back on the rolls.

Most probably agree but with 2 lawyer sons I see differences. Delaware has one of the highest rated legal systems unlike those states that allow exorbitant penalties. These are the biggest offenders and cause problems for the rest of the country. There are many people that thing when they have suffered some harm and sue that they are going to win the lottery and in the bad states they do. Not in Delaware. You get compensated for your injuries but will not get wealthy from them.
There are both dishonest lawyers and doctors but then there are dishonest people of all professions. As a chemist, I knew many dishonest chemists.
I'm never honest during voir dire. Instead I do my best to play the part of the compliant, boot-licking serf.

YEP that is actually the law here. If you call 911 for a domestic dispute, someone MUST be arrested.

Where is "here"? Most places there is an arrest if physical encounter, not verbal. Often, if no physical contact, one party just leaves for the night it is done and cops leave. OTOH, if one of them has marks or cuts, the other is cuffed and gone.
Can you cite that law for us please?
