Raccoons

Hi All,

My sister has raccoons, including babies, under her house. Any non-toxic way to get rid of them?

She can close up the door at night when the adults are out foraging, but then the babies would die and stick like hell.

i have trapped several in my Havahart which is old style with doors at both ends. Mine is groundhog size but the bigger one is needed for large raccoons.

Laws vary with trap and release. Around here you are allowed to trap and kill but not release but I release elsewhere anyway.

I have trapped raccoons, groundhogs, squirrels and skunks.

cleanrth has these deterrents that plug in and the sound vibrations make them leave eventually.

Animal control for my town will bring Havahart traps and set them up for us. When you catch something, you call and they come pick it up and take it to who knows where.

The trap got one a few years ago. I have a large section of my backyard that is mulched due to no sun - nothing will grow but weeds. There is landscape fabric under the mulch. The trap was on the mulch when a raccoon was caught. When I went out the next morning, the landscape fabric had been pulled towards the trap from every direction. 360° The critter must have dragged 10' of fabric and mulch towards the trap on all sides. Pulled it right out the anchors. What a frigging mess.

Yes they're devils.

Because my husband likes to tinker, our trap is affixed to a heavy sort of platform with a cutout for a can of cat food. The cutout is covered by hardware cloth so they can't actually eat the food. We get a lot more mileage out of the cat food when they can't eat it. Raccoons and skunks love cat food. Ground hogs like Twinkies. Possums will go for pretty much anything. If he catches a cat, he pees on it and sends it home. Skunks get carbon monoxide. Everything else gets drowned in a purposed-built watertight box.

Before the platform, he staked the trap down to the ground. We got tired of the captives tearing up the grass under the trap, so he made the platform.
