phone follow up

Not sure what you mean. Is this just one of the many app icons on

There are 2 of them . MyMetro and Metro by t-Mobile. I have tried sliding them to the top and deleting, but I do not get the option, they just stay wherever I take my finger off. They look and act just like any other app.One gives me some options to join a Metro news feed. Maybe t-mobile hard coded that into the phone I have. Doesn't make any difference as the phone works fine and they do not take up any usable space that I need on one of the screens. The box has Metro by T- Mobile all over it. Probably a 'free' phone at one time from them. May have been one of the dealers as they had 4 for sale at one time. They had 100% feedback on about 1400 items so I felt safe the phone would be ok and it is.

Unless something goes wrong with the 3 month trial I will renew it for a year at a time to get the lower price. Also will not have to fool with renewing every month. The other phone I have automatically renews every month, so I have about another week or two to cancel it out.

Thanks for the tip on the Mint Mobile. It is a few dollars more than the plan I now have, but it gives me the 3 gb of data and I am free to use most any phone that works with the system they and many other plans use. While probably not an issue, this phone does have a simple to change battery. Just pop the back off and slide the battey out and put in another. Another reason for me to change is this phone will take a 32 gb memory card where the other phone does not. I downloaded a bunch of pictures and some technical information to the memory card before I put it in the phone. Showes up fine. I wanted a phone about the size of the one I had and this one is the same width and about an inch longer so still fits in my shirt pocket if I want it there. Now I just have to pair it up to the car so I can use it hands free. The car plays the phone through the car 'radio system' and has a microphone somewhere in the car.

My phone was a MetroPCS phone too. I have MyMetro and MetroZone apps. But they don't have icons. I know there was an icon for at least one of them. Not sure if I got rid of it or somehow it disappeared on it's own. Those two apps are part of the bloatware they load and like most bloatware, you can't delete the app. I guess you can't even delete the icon. At least those don't take up so much space. Crap like Facebook is worse, takes up 50MB and you can't get rid of it. I can see maybe making it so it's on there for 60 days or 6 months, but after that if you haven't used it, you probably never will and they should allow you to delete it. You can only delete them if you root the phone, which gives you full control, but is complicated and has pitfalls too.

Another FYI, I didn't like the stock launcher, which is basically the screen interface through which you interact with the icons. I put ADW Launcher on mine. I like the way it flips from one screen to the next much better. And it allows you to lock the screen icons, so that they will not move from where they are. Otherwise I occasionally had some go missing from putting in my pocket without the phone locked, etc. I think with the stock launcher you only had 3 pages too, ADW you can have as many as you want. If you want to check it out, google for ADW Launcher and find some videos that show what it does.

Doesn't

Glad it worked out for you. We'll see if we get our bonus $$.

I can't speak to smartphone apps - but what I did on my wife's tablet - for the apps that I couldn't get rid of - I painfully went through all the apps one-by-one in the "Settings" and selected " no notifications ". This was after a "factory reset" and the tablet became much faster < it had become un-useable because of the bloat of apps >
