OT What costs more than 1000 and less than 20,000.

A guy on tv spent maybe $10,000 on a troublesome ex-girlfriend, and I wanted something tangible to compare that with.

I'd like to say that's like buying a ----- for no good reason.

But I can't think of anything that many people buy that costs more than

1000 and less than 20,000.

Phones, tvs, stereos, unless you get something bigger than almost anyone wants are under 1000, right. And new cars are almost all over 20,000.

It would be of little meaning to say "It's like buying a camper" because most people have never shopped for a camper. It would seem silly to say, "It's like buying a $10,000 used car".

Maybe I just don't live high enough on the hog and there are lots of things in that price range, things that most people want or at least consider once in a while, and many people buy.

What are they?

Furniture. My lawn tractor. The roof on my house. My car (which I bought used). Guns. I'm sure there have been years when I spent $1000 on books, although not recently, and not as a single purchase.

Jewelry (not that I wear any).

Do services count? I spent more than $1000 on tree trimming and felling this year.

Plenty of small cars for under $20k. Hyundai Elantra for one. You could buy one, drive it off a bridge and have more satisfaction for your money than a troublesome girlfriend.

Motorcycles and jet skis leap to mind. Just be sure you get a "single" seat and you can leave the bitch behind.

Years ago I saw a woman with the reintroduced VW bug and asked her if they still cost less than $1,000 like they used to.

You bet. My Harley has a Mustang solo saddle and no passenger foot pegs. Keeps me out of temptation.

For $1000 you get the cute little bud vase... The New Beetle or the Mini Cooper certainly aren't what their ancestors were. Nostalgia adds about 10K to the price.
