Sound bar for better voice quality

I am thinking of getting a sound bar for better voice recognition as my hearing is poor.

I saw the ZVOX AV200 advertised on TV. (See it does work)

We have a Visio similar to that with blue tooth satellite speakers (sub woof and rear channel). It sounds pretty good as long as the programming supports 5.1

Not familiar with that one but any sound bar will be better than the TV speakers.

I have a Sony and 2 Samsung. My only objection to the Sony is it will not turn on with the DirecTv remote though I can adjust volume with it. Plenty of sound options with it

The Samsung work well with the Samsung TVs. Sound is good with a subwoofer and two smaller speakers too. I play YouTube music on the Tv and that sounds good too.

Never heard of that company before. I assume you're interested in the line that's supposed to offer better voice using hearing aid tech? How well that works, who knows. But the idea of a soundbar or using a home theater receiver is a sound one. The new paradigm is the TV is very thin and has very little bezel. That means the speakers that can fit suck. So, you spend $400 for a TV, then $200+ for speakers. If you have one of the new TVs, those speakers suck so bad that even a basic soundbar, without the hearing aid tech, may fix your problem. Depends what you want and how much you want to spend. A basic sound bar will offer good voice, that's where most of that comes from. Or you can spend more, get a sub woofer, surround sound, etc. They had decent entry level soundbars on sale for $50 or $75 on black friday.

I bought an LG 60: smart TV about a year ago. Turns out it has downward facing speakers, which make hearing voices very difficult, especially when trying to listen to announcers during sports, any sports. I stopped watching the TV, even though the picture was perfectly fine...I just couldn't stand the lousy sound.

About four months ago, I bought a 2.1 Visio soundbar for the TV. It had a wireless subwoofer, but I don't really care about bass. Anyway, it was awful, and I returned it.

Last week, I bought a Samsung Model HW-KM45C. Samsung adds a code designation to their electronics, indicating where it was purchased/distributed, just like they do to their cell phones, and like tire companies do with their tires, etc. Because I bought it from Costco, they call it Model "Code" HW-KM45C/ZA. It's the same as HW-KM45C, should you see when looking for this particular soundbar.

I love it. I can now clearly hear voices. One thing, although I don't care about bass, I did find that the bass (from the subwoofer, not the main soundbar) is weak when connected via the optical (TOS) connection, but very strong when connected through the TV ARC,or HDMI. Music played through the USB on the back of the TV, and music played via the soundbar's Bluetooth connection (from my phone or laptop) also sounds great.

it cost $100.

By the way, the soundbar has an LCD panel that let's you know it's settings, and I was also able to configure it so that my Comcast remote and my LG remote were both able to adjust volume, including mute,

Sound bars will sound better than Built in TV speakers, and will vary, but not as good as a regular, bigger, types requiring amplifier.

One word: Bose QuietComfort headphones

I have a Yamaha which was a gift from my son. Was a little confusing to set up and I did not set up with X1 remote but use their remote for volume. Sound is much better than Samsung TV speakers particularly at base end.

Thanks for all the replies. No hearing aids-yet.

My wife watches with me and I really don't like headphones.

YOu lost me. Does closed-captioning cut down on smoking?

So do most people manage to hear Law & Order just fine?

Or do most have the same problem we do and the producers probably don't know about it, or don't care?

Closed captioning is discrimination against blind people.

The wife was saying she has a hard time understanding voices too . So this morning I went out to the shop and brought in a 5.1 system that I replaced with a "better" (it really ain't) system a few months ago . She loves it . So do I , it IS a lot easier to hear than the built-in speakers in our Sanyo 50" non-smart TV . I discovered the same problem with desktop monitors with built-in speakers . I often listen to music on my comp while doing other things , and the built-ins are usually awful .   --   Snag

I've noticed you mention how you do various projects for your wife quite often. You must be a very good husband to her, and you sure do work hard on that house you're building, too!

She's stuck with me for over 44 years , I think that deserves whatever I can do to make her life better/easier/more fun and interesting . I ain't easy to live with ... but you know , the thing is I got one of the best . She doesn't blow money , drink excessively , run around on me , or any of the things people get divorced over . If fact , the only real irritant is when she gets historical . I absolutely hate being reminded of things I did "wrong" 40 years ago .   --   Snag

That's awesome - 44 years together. We will hit 38 years in a few months ourselves. I just had to tell you that you sound like you're a good husband to her. I bet she appreciates all you do for her.

haha! My hubby feels the same way!

Watching TV in a crowded room, there's 2 possible things here:

  1. (closed captioning on) some people miss 95% or so of the words, most miss none (except the few they can't read).
  2. (closed captioning off) everybody misses 95% or so of the words.

That's true. They should be treated like everyone else.
