OT social media and depression

I heard on the radio that extensive use of social media causes depression, in children I think it was.

HOw do they know that depression doesn't cause extensive use of social media?

How dare you assume it was an official medical narrative.

I think they are actually tracking cyber bullying but I agree they are usually making judgements based on a preconceived agenda. I would say if all a kid does is look at social media, they do tend to pipeline into a fantasy world and lose track of the real world.

On a similar note, I was listening to a Radio Lab podcast, specifically Kleptotherms. (Kleptothermy is any form of thermoregulation by which an animal shares in the metabolic thermogenesis of another animal. i.e. a snake wrapping itself around another animal, not to kill it, but to steal its body heat or two people cuddling under a blanket on the couch.)

Part of the episode dealt with the habit of schizophrenics wearing multiple layers of clothing even on the hottest days. It's a similar chicken or the egg thing, like social media and depression:

Do schizophrenics do it to mentally "insulate" themselves from the world or does doing it cause that insulation/isolation because people avoid them?

What's an official medical narrative?

Is is still kleptothermy if you are cuddling up like that hoping to get laid?

A good explanation for why the cat has gotten so damned friendly with the advent of cooler weather.
