OT. Household debt, 14 trillion +

Oh, I know that trap. Got out of it but it was a PITA. Now though, instead of paying interest I get them to pay me. I like getting 5% back at Amazon. and 5% back at the grocery store, including when I buy a bottle of wine. Right now I have a bit over $600 in reward to use when I want.

I had a bad gun buying experience there. Wasted 2 hours there trying to buy a gun when FBI background check computer went down. They wanted me to put money down to secure the gun and call them back to see if computer was up. They would not reserve my data to reenter and get approved and then call me. That is what a gun shop would do. There was a guy there from PA that had same problem and had to come back when computer went down so he would have to return a second time. I left the gun on the counter and walked out.

Their gun counter is understaffed and you have to pick a number and wait in line. Then you have to wait in line at the check out counter also understaffed.

At the gun shop they take your data at purchase site and call it in for approval. I've been in and out of there with a new gun in 10 minutes. As mentioned, if FBI computer was down, they would have submitted my data and called me if approved.

I shop Cabelas but will never buy a gun there.

Back in the 60's Cabelas was the cheapest place to get camping/fishing gear. Bought many lures there. All mail order as their only store was in Nebraska, if I remember right.

The first store was in Kearney. Now they have a couple more in Nebraska. A unique Nebraska business is Ole's in Paxton, Ne. Ole was a big game hunter and has trophies from around the world mounted around the bar/restaurant. One is a polar bear enclosed in glass. It's the first thing you see when walking in.

I remember LL Bean from the '50s. It's a different animal now. Even in the early '80s Bean was the largest IBM installation in the state of Maine. If I was up that way I'd stop and see what was on sale but Kittery Trading Post was a lot closer.

They did it right with the mothership out in Sidney. Right off the interstate and plenty of parking for 18 wheelers, A lot of places discourage trucks but Cabelas knows truckers have bucks in their pockets and like toys.

I think the very first was in Chappell before he moved out to Sidney and went big time. Not sure if that was only mail order.

Cabela and his wife started selling fishing flies by mail from their house in Chappell.

It's not the price - he just can't help himself in his favorite toy store

I never understood Kohl's. They seem to have all kinds of deals where you get from 10 to 30 % off all the time. I got one of their cards and used it the day I applied for it to get something off. Most of the time which has only been about twice or 3 times I ask if I use their card do I get anything off. Usually it is the same their card or theirs.

I really hate the stores like Belks where they advertise a percent off and when you look at the fine print there seems to be an exception on everything.

I like Kohl's and usually go there with my wife who gets a lot of discounts and pays with her card. She shops there a lot.

I will not deal with them again on line after ordering a couple of gift card for my wife. I had trouble with both orders and one resulted with a mass of calls and spam as my name must have leaked out of their system.
