FL has no property tax on automobiles. CT does. They base the car value on one of the Blue Book type charts and tax accordingly. In normal times, each year the car depreciates and tax goes down. With the surge in car prices. people were very upset when they go the latest tax bills and saw increases.

12 hours dock to dock. Of course they had to be there ahead and then waited to have fish cleaned. Closer to 14 hours.

Just imagine doing it in a sailboat like danny suggests to make the fish cheap.

Oops! Sorry Danny. That should have been Wade.

Speaking of "doing it in a sailboat..."

Brings to mind my one big complaint about the recent movie with that movie star scientologist (no, not Travolta).

He's on a sailboat with Jennifer Connelly [a], and it's rocking and rolling and heaving and thrashing...

And NEITHER OF THEM was wearing a life vest.

I see just about every state has a sales tax on cars. They say we have none in DE but they call it a title transfer fee (4.5%). You get credit for trade in or in the case of my last car the value given for a totaled car. You cannot deduct it as a tax in tax filing. There is a similar transfer fee on housing, 4% which is highest in the country.

Then there are those states with annual possession taxes on cars and other personal property. I recall people from West Virginia talking about taking TV's somewhere out of the house so it would not be taxed. Seems odd that taxman would go in the house to inventory things.

CT has a property tax on cars, same rate as real estate. They don't tax possessions but every 10 years they to inspect houses and check for added bathrooms, laundry tubs, decks, major improvements. Just stuff that would increase assessed value. Personal possessions do not matter.

You make a good point. Have you ever seen historic pictures of Florida's coast before everyone decided it was a good place to build things? The coasts were almost deserted.

In my parts it is the DAMNED California RINOs who want to recreate what they left. They have driven the housing prices so high we are having trouble hiring police and fire.

Many places are getting like that. Houses so high the middle class can not afford them. Sooner or later the towns may have to raise the pay in the areas to support the middle class. Just as now the fast dood placez around ere are paying very good compaired to a few years ago.

If your entire town is made up of millionaires and billionaires. you still need nearby police, firemen, grocery store workers, support medical staff, etc. They are not going to commute 50 miles just to take care of you. Face it, we need liquor store clerks.

Driven stronger by make-a-quick-buck companies buying up housing as fast as they can so they can jack up rents and make boo-koo bucks.

I never had to evacuate any place (except the rim of of Grand Canyon during a thunderstorm) so this is real question:

In the cases you are referring to, are there enough hotel/motel/Airbnb room and restaurants right at the edge of the high danger zone for all the people that had to evacuate? Especially from places like Florida where they may only be 2 directions to go - North & West.

Is it reasonable to assume that the later you leave, the farther you have to drive e.g. hundreds of miles, to find available lodging, food, supplies, etc.?

That's one of the very few sitcoms I enjoyed. Heaton nailed the character. She has nailed a few IRL too.

Had any good elk steaks lately? I do miss coastal NH but not enough to go back.

From my personal experience while a nice wooden hull yawl attracts women they tend to get seasick.

Just like a baby rocking in his cradle.

I like that part of NC where if you trip over your bootlaces you may wind up in Tennessee. Or vice versa.

It's not only southern states. Californicators have driven prices here up.

I'm sure you can find a MS-13 lad who needs a legit job on the side to satisfy his PO.
