Man that is stupid and dangerous. Hope US does not follow this lead.
So the planters have nothing to do with keeping the traffic out of the cycle lane? Suspect they might keep emergency vehicles out as well...
We have had them here for some time, cut off bits of old car tyre is what they are. Brian

P.S. you replied in a UK group to an American, not too bright are you?
This was also posted to alt.home.repair with many if not most in the US. I had never seen these things anywhere around to this part of the US.

I've never seen them here in the UK either, must be just a few areas that have adopted this rubbish.
A bit scary looking. I can see where it would make driver pay more attention but I can also see where they may cause more problems than they help. I guess time will tell their worth.
I doubt it, governments aren't that sensible. Take speedhumps for example, and how much criminal damage they do to suspension, making cars unroadworthy and dangerous in the process.

bicycles and motorbikes end up on the gritty slippery bit near the edge, and cars moving closer to the centre of the road to straddle them, having near head on collisions. I've even seen a car coming towards me on a few occasions in the middle of the f****ng road! Low sports car, doesn't want to scrape the underside, so puts left wheels on one bump and right wheels on the other. Needless to say I stayed in the correct position and accelerated, put full beam on, and sounded the horn. The other car very quickly moved out of my way.
