I guess my earlier posting on how to be able to move self-propelled lawn mowers backwards worked as the have not been any new postings on the subject so far this year on how to pull mowers backwards. Most years there are a number of questions raised.
The question/comments were usually to the effect that they could not pull the mower backwards. I said to just push the mower forward a foot or so with the drive mechanism released and them pull the mower backwards. It always works for me.
My clutch (or whatever) really only needs about 6" of forward travel to rel ease whatever it is that hangs up. I usually just release to clutch mechan ism while still going forward at the end of a row and there is enough momen tum to release. But if I go slow and release slowly, I must back up 6" or so or I cannot pull it backwards.

I assume you mean *continue* 6" or so.
I'll have to try that with mine. Maybe I've just been "lucky" and have been traveling that extra 6 inches without realizing it. All I can say is that in the 10+ years that I' ve had the Honda I can't recall a single time that it didn't go backwards when I wanted it to.
