Kohler toilet repair

This week I'm staying with a friend at her Ocean City beach house. It was closed up for a while and she turned the water on for the first time in a few months, The toilet in "my" bathroom filled but they the water came on again. Leaking flapper, but it is not a flapper style.

I looked at it and there is a cylinder that moves up when you hit the handle. No idea how to check it out, so went to YouTube and found the instructions.

Good investment of 6 minutes. After watching, bought the part at a local hardware store and replaced the ring in less than five minutes.

Once I flipped the cylinder over, I saw the split that cause lots of water loss.

Glad it's fixed.

I've been thinking of buying a new toilet that would be higher, because now every time I sit down it rocks the toilet and bumps against the wall. I already had to replace the gasket between the tank and the base. Don't want to have to replace the wax ring.

I think the term is "comfort height" and yes, it makes life easier. I replaced them in the old house and had them in the new house.

In the water closet, I had grab bars installed for my wife, about six years ago. I like having them now too.

I have bought two grab bars, one for in the tub and one for getting in and out. But I h aven't put them in yet. I lost weight and getting out of the tub was easy again, but now it's hard again for some reason. If I had had the second bar installed, I wouldn't have leaned, just a little, against the toilet and I think I wouldn't have damaged the tank gasket.

While I was replacing the tank gasket, I saw for sale little plastic things that go between the tank and the wall and fill up the space between the two, and I got them to keep the tank from moving, so I wouldn't ruin the new gasket. But I think if I didn't have them, I wouldn't know that the toilet is movign, that it was probably moving just as much for the last 40 years, but I didn't know it because it only moved a quarter inch and it didn't hit the wall. So maybe I should take out those plastic things and the bumping will stop. And put in the grab bar so I don't lean on the toilet.

Getting older. Makes a big difference.

Nah, the universal constant of gravity keeps increasing...

True, but it only took about 4 months from when it had gotten easier to when it got harder again. I'm not convinced it's my age though even I think 78 is not young.

Yes, that must be it. We should notify NASA, among others. It probably has an effect on satellite orbits, and trips to the moon.

They say that women live 4 years longer than men. Would an official Democrat gender change buy you more time?
