I see posting something just once can also be overwhelming.

Dunno what happened there. Damn fool computer... why garbage out? That's a rhetorical question, of course. Again, I'm sorry. The OP can contact me with any questions regarding the installation, as the email addy is for real. Piece of cake, really. Really. Tom

I happen to be a good mechanic, but why bother when a couple of ice cube trays will make ice with no other work on my part.

Yup and no offense taken.

Ah, but why did it freeze up? It has worked fine for 16 months.

Shit happens. It is just worth checking because if the water solenoid is bad or the tube is frozen a new icemaker won't fix anything. Is there ice in the tray now that hasn't dumped?

Was about to reply "None" when I got up and looked. Lever is up. Should not be making ice, BUT there is a whole row of cubes against the side of the box. Like they are ready to be pushed out. I dropped the lever to see what happens and as I type I can hear them drop!. TWICE Maybe it just had to rest a few days:-))

Will report back. Thanks to all who made suggestions.

Open the fridge, pop out the "kick plate". Vacuum under there with a shop vac, and long brush. If the ice maker doesn't get down to some temp or other, it stops making ice. That's quick and easy thing to try.

They call GE "Generally expensive" for a reason.

Two years ago, I changed an ice maker for a nice lady, about 3 feet tall, and looked like she didn't grow up in the US. I waited while it filled, ran through a cycle. Told her the first ice cubes would taste bad.

She called back the next day, not working. I was thinking all the things that could be wrong. Got there, the wire was all the way up to "vacation mode". I'd left it down. I asked.

"I put wire up to tell ice maker to make ice". I shoulda charged her another trip charge. Stupidity should be painful.

We'll be watching.

Not needed. Removing the ice maker removes the power to the fill valve.

Fill valve is dribbling, slowly.

I bet that there is a water filter in the line to the ice maker and that it is clogged.

Normally what happens is the refrig was unplugged for some reason or the water was shut off at some point. Causing the line to freeze. Try taking everything out of the freezer part and shutting down, open door and let thaw out. I have seen this happen many times and this is usually what causes ice makers and water dispensers to stop working.

Thanks, but it was not unplugged nor was the water shut off.

It did make ice one time again. Then it got tired again.
