A friend asked me if I could fix her Hunter ceiling fan.But I don't know how it works well enough to fix it. Yet. That's where you come into the picture.What advice for fixing it would you suggest?1. The Hunter ceiling fan light switch works fine.2. If I pull down on the chain, the light goes on or off (if the wall switch is on, of course)3. But the fan never spins. No matter what I do.So I took it down from the ceiling (please don't ask how heavy it is).There's an extra white "doohicky" that operates, remotely prolly, the fan.What's the best way to get the fan to work?a. Do I replace the rectangular doohicky & remote?b. Or do I just find a remote that works with the doohicky?How?Here are some photos. Let me know if you need more information.

If not, replace batteries. If yes, check to see of the dip switch settings are the same on the remote as they are on the doohicky. I ran a reverse image search, where ECE is likely to be the name of the DIP switch manufacturer so I think the ceiling receiver is likely left at the default of 0000 (I think).

I agree, and I'd probably steer toward a unit that has two pull chains, one for the lights on/off, and one for the fan off/hi/med/lo. I currently have a unit with a remote control, but I only use the pull chains.

We mostly use the wall switches. When my husband installed the fans, he pulled wires down and added switches.

We have 5 ceiling fan/light combos in the house and we use the wall switches to turn the lights on/off and the fans on/off. We use the pull chains to adjust the fan speed. The remote is in a drawer somewhere, possibly in the kitchen.

Oops, I missed three. We have a total of 8 units, two of which came with remotes. I found the remotes in a drawer in the living room, batteries removed. Wall switches for on/off and pull chains for fan speed.

We fairly rarely adjust the fan speed. Low is good enough; all we really want to do is keep the hot air from accumulating at the ceiling. Once in a while we turn the light on. We don't like the strobing from having the fan and light on at the same time--even on the ones where the fan is above the light.

We have three fan/light combos in our little house and one fan-only. For two of them, we use the remote. The fan-only has a fancy wall switch that will change the fan speed. For one we use the pull chains.
