How to mark hole that is too small.

What's a good way to mark something when you can't see it?

I need to enlarge a little bit the hole in a door jamb that a door bolt goes into, but I don't know which side is causing the problem.

Ink, magic marker, lipstick, nail polish, tomato sauce I think I've done this before but I can't remember what I used.

  1. Push on the door as you move the bolt back & forth 2. Pull on the door as you move the bolt back & forth Use the knowledge gained to deduce the corrective action. Sometimes just re-tightening the screws in the bolt mechanism and the plate will help. John T.

Soft lead pencil. Yeah I know it's not really lead but you know what I mean.

Take the striker plate off and hang it on the bolt. You can see that.

Genius. Why didn't I think of that?

It does sound good. I have to wait until there is another warm day to work on this. I'll let you know, plus the soft lead pencil (I hope I still have one), and the pushing and pulling.
