handle for older solid wood door

I have a half dozen or so solid wood doors in my house that measure 1

1/4". Will a standard Bed & Bath type set fit this width? At the moment there are different style handles on all the doors, all with a filler piece of wood on the inside of the door. The filler piece is ugly and I want to remove them as I refinish the doors. I just don't know if current sets are more flexible in their sizing than they were when these handles were installed. If need be I will just have to make some nicer looking filler pieces, I'd just rather not have to.

TIA Ian

Actually the doors measure 1 1/8".

Am I the only person in the world with these doors?

That is a standard interior window thickness--I've not run into doors that thickness...

If the locksets are traditional or some other reason to keep them, I'd think it relatively simple to shorten the knob rod, but some designs could possibly make that problematical. If they're the old style square through-rod it shouldn't be very dificult to shorten them a 1/4" or so.

OTOH, if they're a newer modern-style exterior designed for 1-3/4" door it might not be so simple.

If you need/want period replacements, might look at something like these guys...

and see if they can help.

I don't know of a source for such a door directly, either.

No -- but have you looked at the hardware store?

I just bought a couple lockests at my local TrueValue store that said something like "Fits all doors" on the package-- and installed them on my 1 1/8" doors. I had to re-drill the doors but the locksets fit fine.

Yes I'd looked in the Hardware Store and even picked up a standard Schlage interior lockset that also said "Fits all doors" and it didn't, I think I needed atleast another 1/8 - 1/4 inch to get a tight fit.
