Garage door repairs

This family hired a construction company to fix their garage door and are now paying the ultimate price.

This door wasn't secure or clamped off when the worker disconnected the electric opener. Worse yet, he disconnected when there was people standing in the opening. Geez, what was he thinking!!!

If you can't fix it yourself at least hire the right trade to fix the problem. Don't hire a plumber to fix an electrical problem etc. etc.

There was a tragic case in Ohio where a homeowner made the same mistake of disconnecting a raised door with a broken spring. The parent could only watch as the child was suffocated by the weight of the door, which was too heavy to lift.

The spring manufacturer was eventually held liable, even though the part had performed its normal service before failing. Kind of like holding the tire manufacturer liable for a bald-tire blowout.

There are better ways to manage such risks than the guild mentality.
