Follow-up on dead Philips DVDR357H, digiatal and analog turner/recorder/player with DVD and harddrive.
As you may remember, it was dead.
There were 7, not 8 as I said, on Ebay, and by the time I'd made up my mindw hich, there were 10**
I bough an expensaive one because I fully believe it will last 15 years like the first one did, even though I know it's already 15 years old. I always thing things will work, even if they are broken. Connected it up and it works fine.
But there is a problem. The old tuner had occasional hum in the picture on my 20-year old 14" CRT in the bathroom, just for a couple seconds, mostly during commericals when there is text superimposed on the screen. not nearly enough to annoy me. With the new tuner, it's more than half the time much of the time, plus the 21" CRT TV in the kitchen, which must be newer, has the same noise occasionslly when before it had no such problem. The smart LG TV, about 3 years old still has no noise, but I really don't want to buy two more smart tvs and I don't think there is room on the bathroom counter for one anyway (facing sideways towards the bathtub.)
Can you recommend an antenna filter that might help, There are a lot that refer to cell towers. I don't think this is cell tower interfernce because I would expect that to be almost constant, but this depends entirly on what is on the screen. Sometimes, in a two camera shot, during programming, not a commerical even, when one camera is bringing the picture, there is hum. When the other is, no hum, and they might go back and forth several times, each time it's the same, one shot hum, the other, no hum. Or if there is a text, like a commerical or news banner. and text on the screen, not a picture of text but lik,e weaterh emergency announcements, that very often makes hum.
What will filter that out?
** They were 80 to 150 dollars The one for sale by Goodwill had a minimum price of 15 and after 6 days sold for 37, but it would have been more if I were bidding too. Still, that guy got a good deal.
Also The remote extension, a red piece of plastic that connects to my Pyramid remote control reciefver, was very hard to get off the old one, after 15 years, but when I did, it was still sticky enough to attach to the new one, and it worked too from 3 other rooms in the house. (Had I not gootten it off or I'd ruined it, I bought one with 3 heads. One was for the VCR but I never attached it. So I have two spares, plus they still sell them for under $10.) So it works, but for one tv, the one in the the kitchen, the farthest room away, only intermittently. So I moved the receiver to one, then another place I thought was better, and now it doesn't work from any room! Perhaps it failed by coincidence when I moved it, or the power strip (with 4 other things plugged in) is not good all of a sudden. I'll work on that. I bought a spare receiver planning for this day, but that was 5 or 10 years ago and I have to find it. .
