Politics. Kill filter helps. I've added a bit to it myself so not casting stones, at least not big ones.

The signal to noise ratio here has really gone down the crapper!!!!
Nobody repairs their own house. People on Usenet are too old; young people are on social media. Plus, young people are a couple of generations away from learning anything practical from their (usually) fathers.
I got the strangest look from the mechanical inspector for my mother's furnace installation when he said the vent was too close to a stud and I said, "Dang. I should have brought my Sawzall."
He recommended I get the outfit that installed the furnace to come make good. They came, and the vent was still a half inch too close to the stud, so I ended up wielding my Sawzall anyway. (It was the jack stud for a piddly 24-inch door opening, so I wasn't worried about carving off a slice along one corner.)
Maybe that will change when Canada becomes the 51st state?
Good luck with Quebec .. ;-) John T.
We had a bit post election that was picking up but they got drowned out. I too am kicking up the kill filter here (called 'bozo bin' in Xananews). The sad thing is if any of them have a genuine on topic question, I'll not see it.
--->Bozo bin
Huh?
I'm old and do repairs all the time.
I won't post here to ask questions though. Not until I see civil discussion come back.
I'm only reading here to remind myself how disgusting some people are.
Agreed, just post on topic.
OMG, that is funny. See your post from one minute earlier. Yes, I'm guilty to.
Fat chance for most of the bozos
Yes. When I checked the group this morning, I found only ONE on-topic message.
LOL, I'm old and disabled but I wasn't always. Grew up flipping houses though it didn't have that name then,
Speak for yourself. I put the studded tires on Saturday and I don't mean that I loaded them in the car and drove to a tire shop. The last home repair I did was this spring when I fixed a couple of roof leaks. Does that count?
I suppose the day is coming but it ain't here yet.
Where did you find that? Other than micky's ramblings the last interesting thread was the guy who is trying to build a solar powered hot tub from stuff he finds in dumpsters.
How dare you install an 80% furnace!
A true liberal Democrat would install a >92% high-efficiency furnace. Those 80% units cause climate change.
Truth be told, a true believer would install a heat pump.
My house is six years old so not much to do. I have limits now though. One step on the step ladder these days.
My son came over to change the batteries in the smoke detectors. Ceilings are 9'4", a bit of a reach.
I did change the water filter in the fridge though. I pay for the lawn care.
I spent yesterday (Sunday) morning snaking logs out of a tangled mess and cutting them to stove length then loading them on my trailer . This morning I unloaded it after I divided Saturday's meat purchases into serving size portions and bagging/freezing it . Tomorrow I expect to start loading a couple of downed trees that are over on the west side of our property that I cut to stove lengths a few weeks ago . Big trees , they'll need to be split - today's wood was small enough to not need splitting .
I am not up to doing too much around the house this winter. No shovelling or blowing snow. No lifting anything over about 8 lbs. No twisting or bending for a while. Thankfully the spinal fusion surgery went well and pain has not been an issue. Hopefully by spring I will be pretty much back to "normal" - whatever that endsup being - - -
I've been lucky enough to avoid the knife ... though it's going to be just a matter of time until I have to have something done about a disk or two in my neck . I've read about a procedure that involves injecting some kind of urethane or similar compound to build up a worn disk . Hopefully when I can no longer put it off I can have a procedure that's minimally invasive , maybe laparoscopic repairs .
We should take the rule to not answer to them. Then they will get bored and go away.
