Have had an explosion of drain flies this year after having them suppressed for a number of years. Not sure of the cause, but have been treating/ retreating the drains, etc with strong bleach and other methods. However, I wanted to try something else this year and that was a trap. Problem is that both I've tried have not worked. They were vinegar based, one with white vinegar, and the other with apple cider vinegar. The white vinegar also had the addition of sugar, water and a few drops of dishwashing soap; the apple cider vinegar was just used on its own. Both of these were made based on instructions I found online, but neither work. Is there a trap that I can make that works. that will attract and kill the flies? Thank you.

One has worked for me is those fly strips that you unwind and hang up. Put one in each room.

Mix up a little bifen and pour it down your drains. Kill them in the pipe
No good here. I have those up in at least two rooms already. Have had for a long time. They never worked with the drain flies.
Funny you'd mention Bifen. I got a small container of that last year that I was going to mix up and spray around my house exterior, but never got around to. So, mixed some up with some water and poured a bit down each drain. Hope that does the trick. Going to let it get as dry as possible within the drains before I start running water through them again. THanks for the suggestion and keeping my fingers crossed that it works.
