I am special.

They are likely related. As is Hershey.

They are all over the USA now - early on they went to Ohio -and Michigan and Wisconsin - pretty much across Canada and the USA

My ancestors had all their property confiscated in Switzerland and Germany - by the time they got to Holland there was nothing to confiscate -

I set up some equipment in Akron in the early '70s. It was a 24 hour a day town because of the shift work. Want to go bowling at 3AM? No problem.

Maybe it's time to pull a Galt.

I've never been comfortable asking anybody for anything so I guess reparations are out.

23AndMe has the little trick of listing trace ancestry ~0.10 broadly sub-Saharan African.

It pains them to say 100% European.

'Kingsblood Royal' was a novel by Sinclair Lewis.

The protagonist started researching his ancestry thinking to find royalty and got a bit of a surprise. It's still relevant 70 years later.

I lost track of most of mine. I didn't receive a Christmas card this year from the one I did keep in touch with. Since she was in her 80's I'm not taking that as a hopeful sign.

Strictly a counter move. Someone asks me for $100, I ask for $1000. The only thing I have asked for is jobs. Never been refused and they got more than their moneys worth.

There was a Snyder's Lake where I grew up. They tried to change the name to Aries during the war but it didn't take. When my cousin was dating a Snyder I'd give it the full German pronunciation to piss her off.

I asked for jobs but I've also had jobs hunt me down. One summer back in the '70s I was happily collecting unemployment when one of the damn things found me.

We were / are an industrious bunch!!!

Yeah, I've had jobs hunt me down too. One was almost like you describe, I saw the co. was going down the tubes and a new door opened up and I went thru. I am very fortunate. Every job has better in interest and money.
