can't properly shut window

Oct 11, 2004 2 Replies

hi, i recently installed brand new double hung window ( by milguard).

2 of the windows--double double hung--seem to have dificulty shutting all the way, even though they are plumbed, leveled and squared.

i have to slam the windows down quite forcefully in order for the latch to catch and lock. i don't have this problem with other double hung windows in the house..

all the windows rest on the rough sill as suggested by the manufacturer's installtion guide.

what do you think is the problem? thank you in advance.

Is there thick weather-stripping at the bottom of the window? It may crush down over time and allow it to latch properly. I had a sliding door that was difficult to latch for about 6 weeks, then it was OK.

hi edwin, turns out that this milgard window has 2 small latches were not in the correct position. these latches allow the window to tilt inward so you can clean the outside glass. after ensuring that these latches are locked in positino, i was ble to shut the window more easily. thanks for your help.
