Black Ants???

Try Fire Ants. Currently have two, maybe three really itchy, burning spots on my feet where I was attacked this past week. Will take 3-4 weeks for the patches to disappear.

All other ants are TRIVIAL by comparison. Sure they get into things, make messes, BUT THEY DO NOT ATTACK YOU!!!!!

I would suggest POISON, Ortho makes quite a selection

Are these tiny kitchen "sugar" ants, or big carpenter ants?

Totally different issues.

I've tried all the various stuff at the store -- Terro is the only thing that had an impact that I could see.

It's just been a month or so since I found out about Terro, bit it seems to be working (for black ants in kitchen) where nothing else has.

You first have to figue out what they eat. If they are sugar ants Terro works pretty well. If they are grease ants (eat proteins) you may have more trouble, You can try making a bait with 12 parts whatever they eat and 1 part boric acid (basically what Terro is) If these are South Florida "white foot ants" your mileage will vary. They have separate food streams and multiple queens so you will just teach them what not to eat. Eventually, once you get down to one food supply they may lead you back to the nest and when they do don't screw around. Mix up a 3-4 gallon batch of Ortho ant and termite killer per label directions and douse the whole area where they live. It is probably in a flower bed near the house.
