You have to study two statistically large groups of identical people in the exact same environement with identical instructions. One has to have a worthless mask and the other one a good mask. And neither the administrators or the participants can know who has the good and bad masks. This is a "blinded" Random Clinical Trial (RCT).

Comrade Bob refuses to use the scientific method because he gets his prejudices handed back to him on a platter.

Now infection rates were dropping in New Your BEFORE the mask mandate. And not science any more than Comrade Bob's prejudices.

If you don't you induce bias. Everyone has to be doing the same thing, except for the quality of the mask and no one can know who has what.

That is a different kind of test. And all the evidence from actual testing, shows that masks are useless

Cloth masks also had significantly higher rates of ILI compared with the control arm. An analysis by mask use showed ILI (RR=6.64, 95% CI 1.45 to 28.65) and laboratory-confirmed virus (RR=1.72, 95% CI 1.01 to 2.94) were significantly higher in the cloth masks group compared with the medical masks group. Penetration of cloth masks by particles was almost 97% and medical masks 44%.
