Same question to different groups; different answers and attitudes.

I asked a question to alt.engineering and I received some answers that focused on the question and gave useful information.

I asked the same question to alt.hvac and not only did they basically ignore the question, they focused on me, demonstrated their considerable knowledge of cussing, character assasination, and bragging about their earnings.

This is very amusing to say the least.

I wonder if this is typical of the differences between engineers and HVAC technicians?

BTW The 220 VAC fan has been running fine for 2 weeks on its 110 VAC diet.

No, it just means that you are a dumbshit who doesn't know where he is not wanted.

Just go away.

What do you mean by "fine"?

Sure, my car will run fine for two weeks with non-detergent motor oil in the crankcase. So what?

Now, please go away.

Thanks for proving my point.

I guess that 47 years of running a 220 VAC fan at 110 VAC is not enough evidence for you to begin to doubt your preconceived notions. A very interesting way to view the flat earth.

'fine' means smooth running with no evidence of overheating.

If you know all the answers, why do you have to ask for advice on a newsgroup?

What is an "innocent troll"?

Behind closed doors your words ring hollow What you said they'd be What behavior? Who are you, but I like it Now I'm done with nothing new, sometimes green sometimes blue And I'm guilty, and I'm guilty, and I'm guilty, and I'm guilty And you're guilty too Hey Hey Hey I'm guilty and you're guilty too Hey Hey Hey Hey I'll tell you something, something new You're hearing nothing, nothing true You're killing me, I'm killing you And I'm guilty too One two three, I found you out so easily One two three, I found in you what I found in me The time is wrong, the time is right--be careful who you kill tonight And I'm melting, and I'm melting, and I'm melting, and I'm melting And I'm melting in you Hey Hey Hey I'm guilty and you're guilty too Hey Hey Hey Hey One and one and one makes three One and one why don't you see I'm killing you, you're killing me Can't you set me free Inside out, I can't describe it, what you do to me Inside out, I cannot hide it looking right through me Now I've reached the living end, pointing fingers to defend And I'm guilty, and I'm guilty, and I'm guilty, and I'm guilty And you're guilty too I'll tell you something, something new You're hearing nothing, nothing true You're killing me, I'm killing you And I'm guilty too

Shocking. ;-)

Heya Stu,

It is a fascinating little world here.

Not sure if it's an engineer vs technician thing so much as "newsgroup frequented by educated reasonable human beings" vs "news group with a few choice dipshits seting the tone who never made it past adolescence and Beevis and Butthead social skills."

The caveat of course is that, I haven't met any folks with the wherewithal to get any technical 4 year degree who get too far into the program behaving like 12 year old boys overcompensating for inferiority complexes. I do hold out hope that this ng isn't a useful represntation of the hvac technician field though. The problem here is that mostly the tenor is set by a few folks who seem to be poster boys for birth control.

I am glad to hear you got your question answered, and not at all surprised to hear your experience of alt.hvac.

There is hope though-- recently saw someone ask an off topic water heater question actually got some reasonable advice!

Best Regards,

So Todd,

Have YOU been reading Stu's posts here? Do you think he is a reasonable guy asking reasonable questions?

If not, maybe you should. It was insane for a while.
