Lennox Compressor Cutting Out

My 10-year old, 5-ton Lennox A/C system started giving me problems recently. For some time, we have heard a gurgling sound coming from the attic (where the evaporator/blower is). The sound kept getting louder and longer. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, the compressor started overheating and shutting off in mid-cycle; I also noticed the connections to the outside unit icing up. A repair man came out and replaced the expansion valve, which seemed to help for a few days, but now the compressor is occasionally shutting off in mid-cycle again, and I have noticed ice buildup outside. Is there anything else that could be causing the problem? Thanks.

Gurgling sounds, freeze-up - Symptoms indicate a possible refrigerant leak. That is only a guess, we can not diagnosis problems from here! I am NOT responsible for what you & your tech do. There is a problem that needs to be addressed! Read all, you can & get you tech to do the same! If he uses all of the diagnostic tests available, he will locate the problem(s)!

You need to have the same guy come out. He needs to change the expansion valve again. Those go bad pretty often and once in a while they get a bad batch of them. That should take care of it. Be prepared to pay for it again though. Its not his fault the valve went bad. Bubba

"I also noticed the connections to the outside unit icing up. " It sounds and looks like overcharge to me and possible not enough air across cooling coil DIDO
