Do all skylights eventually leak?

A 20 year old house I looked at over the weekend has 3 largeskylights.  The original owner says that none has ever leaked.  I'vealways been under the impression that all skylights eventually leak toone degree or another.  Is it realistic to think that some have notover a 20 year period?

Is Home Depot 30% acetic acid at $20 a gallon safe & ok to use for foodand is it a better deal than the Costco two-gallon box of white vinegar? Home Depot vinegar says it's 30% but the Four Monks vinegar doesn'tsay, nor does the Costco advertisement supply a price w/o an account.Anyone know?

We are contemplating replacing our open fire with a stove, but, with no experience, do not know whether a pure log burner or multi fuel stove would be best?Any thoughts?  We are told that a multi fuel stove burning coal is more likely to damage the chimney liner than just burning logs.Thanks,

JG Speedfit to BSP - what options are there?

I need to make several JG Speedfit connections to 1/2" BSP male.This looks like what I need:-     but will this go onto the sort of male connector where one wouldnormally use PTFE tape?  I.e. it's not like a tap where one wouldprobably use a rubber washer of some sort to make the seal.  The abovelooks like it's expecting to have a washer inside it. Am I in the landof taper BSP as opposed to parallel BSP?Am I confused or is there a somewhat different type of fitting that Ineed?

Recycling old electrical appliances

I thought that when you bought a new electrical appliance from a retailer there was a legal obligation on them to take back the old one and send it for recycling.   Is my memory at fault, or has the law changed?We have a washing machine with a couple of minor faults that turns out to be 21 years old.  That means it's probably not worth me trying to take it apart to try to work out what's wrong and almost certainly not worth paying for a repair.  So we need to start looking for a replacement.  But the big sheds now seem to charge extra to pick up the old machine - and councils also charge to collect them.   Is this the new normal?

LG OLED TV turns off after few seconds

Hi allI have an LG C9 OLED TV which turns off a few seconds after it isswitched on either by the remote or the power button. The sequence isstandby light is onpress the button and it goes offA green line starts to be drawn on the screenGoes back into standby and standby light goes on.I have checked the power coming out of the power board and seems to becorrect (including different voltages when in standby Vs on whereappropriate). I have also checked the voltages on the t-con board andagain they seem to be correct.So thinking are are now down to either the master board or the panelitself, I tried the followingBaked the master board in the oven in case there was a dodgy connection(200 Deg C for 10 mins). No changeRemoved all the panel connectors from the t-con board (thinking of thepanel was shorting it would at least stay powered on) but again nochange.Added each of the 4 panel connectors back one at a time (only oneconnected at a time) again no change.So... Now at a loss as to where to...

A GFI Outlet Problem

GFI keeps tripping off when I turn off portable fan heaterI have a small electrical portable heater in one of our bathrooms. Itsits on a small stand by itself.  For some time it has been tripping offwhen I turn off the heater.  It does not trip when turning the heateron, only when it's being turned off. This only happens occasionally, butis worrying me.the cord of the heater is extended to the outlet by a 16 gauge regularextension cord.  I notice that when it does trip off that the plug ofthe extension cord going into the GFI wall outlet, and less than a footof the extension wire, are very warm. The rest of the wire to the heateris not warm.I have not called an electrician because their prices are in thehundreds of dollars even for simple jobs.  Any electrical guys out there that can help?

How to legally degas a freezer

I have an old chest freezer that seems to be giving up the struggle to coolits contents and given its age I strongly suspect it’s losing itsrefrigerant. I’m actually using it as a fridge with an add on thermostatbut recently the compressor has been running continuously without reachingthe target temperature.Now I quite fancy having a play with the old compressor (maybe as a vacuumpump) but it’s clearly got some refrigerant and being a law abiding citizenif possible (and not ridiculously expensive) I’d like to get it degassed.Anyone know of likely costs for such a service? Is there a simpler/cheaper (and legal) way of getting hold of a second handfridge compressor?  Maybe I just need to keep my eyes open for a fly-tipped fridge with abroken coil? ;-)Tim

Trimming a door

I'm looking to install a pattern 10 internal obscure glazed door but am going to need to trim the usual 1981 x 762 x 35mm size down to 1960 x 760 x 35mm. A couple of suppliers I've contacted say I can't reduce to 1981mm to 1960mm as it will 'expose the core and void any warranty'.Anyone got any thoughts on this and/or a link to a more helpful supplier?Frank
