Anybody have any success in using any of the devices intended for planting tiny seeds such as celery and thyme? If so, what works and how does it work? Thanks for any info you may offer!

Never used them. The traditional way is to use a fold of glossy paper and to tap the paper so they slowly drip out of the fold. By adjusting the slope of the paper and the way you tap you have quite good control of the rate they come out. You can thin them more by mixing in dry sifted sand so a seed only comes out sometimes. One suspects that any commercial version will be some variation on this idea.
