hello all

i have a steam cleaner that needs a new cable it currently has a 2.5mm cable attatched to a ip44 commando plug

is this cable and plug over kill for this machine or can i change the cable and plug to a more normal size say 1.5 and a normal 13amp plug

the model is hear for info karcher hds 745

formatting link
sorry to sound vague but i have only just purchased this machine second hand

thanks for any advice

I am not an electrician, but as the connected load of the HDS 745 is 3.2kW then I think it needs an industrial plug and heavy duty cable. An immersion heater is usually around 3kW, and a 1.5mm cable and 13 amp plug are not suitable for that.

The maths show 3.2kW at 230 volts gives 13.91 amps. Forget the normal plug and socket, you need a dedicated 16 amp MCB to supply the power.
