I was originally looking at a standard heat pump unit to save on the electric bill, but then I ran into this Superhot H1C thing that basially mines Bitcoin to heat your water. It is priced around three grand wich is honestly right in line with the high-end hybrid tanks after installation, so the math acutally seems kind of interesting if it works. Supposedly it just uses the waste heat from the mining chips to keep the tank warm. It sounds like a wild concept and I saw they were actually at CES, but I am torn on wether this is a genius way to offset utility costs or just a massive headache waiting to happen. The issue with combining a miner and a tank is the lifecycle mismatch. Mining rigs are usally obsolete in three or four years, but you want a water heater to last at least a decade. If the hashing board fries or the hash rate becomes unprofitable, you are just stuck with a very expensive, noisy heating element that isn't nearly as efficient as a dedicated heat pump. If you want to mine, buy a seperate S19 or whatever is current and put it in the garage.
