After seeing an auction with average-quality woodworking machinery for sale but noticing there was a good selection of hardwood lumber, and, only interested in the latter, I called the auctioneer to make sure there was a reasonable quantity. The drive was about 1 1/2 hours from my home just west of Toronto. I hooked up my utility trailer and away we went. I arrived about half an hour before the lumber went up for sale as the auctioneer told me about the time it would be selling.
There it was in 10-12 lots mostly assorted by type of lumber, cherry, pine, maple, black walnut, oak and butternut.
I returned home with close to 300 board feet of all the species listed above with the exception of the cherry since I have plenty of that. Most was rough cut 1" x 6" and wider although there was quite a lot of
2" thick stock and wider and with the exception of 12-15 8 ft boards most of the remainer was 4-6 foot lengths. There were two 1 x 12 black walnut boards that were 5 feet in length and a couple of 8 foot 2 x 8's.Total price $97 Canadian including all taxes!!! And that's the truth!!!
