HOWEVER, most regular reader here, myself included, would tend to disregard information from such people as a matter of course, if not permanently plonk them. On the basis that they are almost always in the business of recommending what they sell, not always what is best.

Hello Owain and Natuaral philosopher thanks for the advice i will state tha= t it is our site in future. However we are a local service company. We do n= ot sell products and the person wanting advice is miles from our catchment = area. Surely by allowing professional people to give high quality advice wi= th a signature backlink is how the quality of information on these forums i= ncrease. It is mutually beneficial.=20

The difficulty is that you are replying to a very old post that has expired from most news servers[1] - hence it does not appear in a thread, and we hence have no idea what you are replying to. This is not helped by you not quoting any of the post to which you are replying.

The nett result is that each and every one of your posts appear as a standalone posting containing nothing but promotional material for your business - which does look very much like spamming. I appreciate this is perhaps not how you intended it to appear, and you are also correct in assuming that representatives commercial enterprises are allowed to post information here. As it says in the group FAQ:

"Company representatives (who are often valued experts) are welcome to suggest their products where a genuine question has been asked on the subject, but only if they answer the questions put, and should note that planted questions will be obvious. Company representatives may mention their products, services or websites in the signature of their replies to questions. (please keep signatures to under five 75-character lines). "

[1] If its more than a couple of months old, chances are it won't be available to the majority of readers of the group. The google archive goes back much further, but most folks don't use google to access usenet.
